If you ask most people in our society today about the idea and development of a special day set asside for the wonderful children in our lives, most people's reactions would focus around the point that every day is "Childrens Day". However, This point has been transcended by Michael Bordino. His definition of a childrens day does not only signify a day where the children of our society are honored and recognized, but also signifys the creation of loving relationships between parents and children, as well as the abolishment of child abuse. This concept, proposed by Mr. Bordino, has gained enormousby the staten island sports complex board of directors, community political leaders, and perhaps the area of most importance, the families. On December 16th, 1984, the objective sought by many was fulfulled. On this date Boro President Ralph Lamberti became the first political leader to proclaim Childrens Day,. This Proclamation was only the beginning of the day's festivities. This day hosted the support of numerous professional stars of art and dance. The New York Institute of Martial Arts began the festival demonstrating a black belt and artistic display on Te Kwan Do headed by their leader, Master Kim. THe fablous and flawless dance group of Clive Thompson supremely detailed every number and continued to enchant the audience. The elegant beauty of the U.S.F.S.A. and I.S.I.A. skating organizations followed and proceeded to dazzle the audience with musical numbers splendidly done. Also recieved by the audience was the intriguing display of the exciting Fantius Greek Dance Troop, who vigorously contributed their support on this first annual day. The performance Culminated with the christmas cartoon characters ice hockey exhibition which delighted the hearts of all the children.
